Jæja

Terms of use

Last updated:

Draft. This page describes the app as it works today and is still being checked by a lawyer before the public launch.

These terms apply when you use the Jæja app (on iOS, Android or the web) and this website. By using them, you agree to these terms. How we handle your data is explained in the privacy policy.

1. Who we are

The app is provided by [Company legal name, address — to confirm] ("we"). Contact: support@jaeja.io.

2. The app

Jæja teaches Icelandic with lessons, stories and reviews. It is free to use today. The app is in beta: features change, and some lessons are drafts still being checked by a native-speaking editor (test versions mark them as "beta content"). We work hard to get the Icelandic right, but the app may contain mistakes — please tell us when you find one.

We cannot guarantee any result in an official exam or citizenship test.

3. Who may use it

You must be at least 16 years old. You can use the app without an account. If you create one, keep access to its e-mail address safe: anyone who can read your e-mail can sign in to your account.

4. Fair use

Please do not:

  • break the law with the app, or use it to harm others;
  • try to break into, overload or disrupt our servers, or use other people's accounts;
  • copy the app's lessons, stories, audio or artwork in bulk (for example by scraping), or resell them.

We may suspend an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these rules.

5. Our content and yours

The lessons, stories, audio, illustrations and software are ours or licensed to us, and you may use them for your own learning. Some data has its own licence: inflection data comes from the Database of Icelandic Morphology under CC BY-SA 4.0 — see credits.

Your answers and progress are yours. You allow us to store and process them only to run the app for you (for example to sync your devices). You can export or delete them at any time — see Support.

Planned — not in the app yet

There are no paid features yet. Before any arrive, these terms will describe prices, renewal, cancellation and your right of withdrawal, and you will be asked to accept them before buying. Reviewing what you have already learned stays free.

7. Availability and liability

We provide the app as it is, and cannot promise that it is always available or free of errors. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live, or our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited (for example for intent or gross negligence).

8. Ending

You can stop using the app at any time and delete your account in the app (Me → Account → Delete my account). We may end the service; if we do, we will tell you in advance where we can, and you can export your data before it closes.

9. Changes and law

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and we will point out important changes in the app. These terms are governed by [governing law and courts — to confirm], without taking away the protection of the law of the country where you live.

Disputes: you can also use the European Commission's consumer dispute resources. [whether an ODR / ADR notice is required — to confirm]
