Questions, problems or ideas about Jæja? Write to support@jaeja.io. The answers below cover the most common questions.

How do I contact you?

E-mail support@jaeja.io. It helps if you tell us your device (for example iPhone, Android phone or the web app in Chrome) and the app version, which you find in the app under Me → About & credits. A screenshot often says more than a description.

Testing the beta through TestFlight? You can also send feedback with a screenshot straight from the TestFlight app, or by taking a screenshot in the app and tapping Share Beta Feedback.

Do I need an account? Is my progress backed up?

No account is needed. Your progress is saved on your device as you learn. Without an account it stays only on that device: if you delete the app or clear the browser's data, the progress is gone.

Where your version of the app offers it, Me → Account → Save your progress backs your progress up to your account with a sign-in link sent to your e-mail, so you can carry on on another device. Versions without online accounts say so under Me → Account.

How do I start again from the beginning?

There is no reset button in the app yet. Until there is:

  • On a phone: delete the app and install it again. This removes all progress stored on the phone.
  • In the web app: clear the site data for app.jaeja.io in your browser's settings.
  • If you saved your progress to an account: signing in again would bring it back. To start from zero, delete the account first (see below).

How do I delete my account and data?

In the app: open Me → Account → Delete my account and confirm with Delete everything. Your account and all its progress are deleted from our server straight away, and the app is wiped on that device. This cannot be undone.

Without the app: e-mail support@jaeja.io from the e-mail address you signed in with, with the subject "Delete my account". We confirm that the address is yours, delete the account and all its data, and reply when it is done — within one month at the latest.

Never saved your progress? Then we hold no data about you. Deleting the app (or clearing the browser's data for the web app) removes everything.

A guest backup without an e-mail address can only be deleted in the app, because we cannot tell whose it is otherwise. Details are in the privacy policy.

How do I get a copy of my data?

If you saved your progress, Me → Account → Export my data gives you everything we store about your account as a JSON file — on a phone through the share sheet, on the web as a download. Without an account, nothing is stored on our side.

How do reminders work?

On iPhone and Android, turn on Settings → Reminder → Daily reminder (Settings is under Me) and choose a time. Your phone will ask whether the app may send notifications — say yes, or reminders cannot appear.

  • You get at most one reminder a day, and none once your daily goal is done.
  • If you do not open the app for three days, the reminders stop until you come back.
  • Reminders are scheduled by your phone itself, so they work offline and we never learn when you study.
  • Not getting them? Check that notifications for the app are allowed in your phone's settings, then turn the reminder off and on again in the app.
  • The web app sends no reminders and no browser notifications.

Can I learn offline?

Yes. On iPhone and Android, lessons, stories and their audio are part of the app, so you can learn on a plane or in the highlands without a connection. If you saved your progress to an account, it syncs the next time you are online.

The web app needs a connection to open; your progress is stored in the browser either way.

I found a mistake in the Icelandic

Thank you — please tell us! All Icelandic in the app is written for the app and is being checked by a native-speaking editor; lessons that are not checked yet carry a small "beta content" marker in test versions. Inflected forms come from the Database of Icelandic Morphology (see credits).

E-mail support@jaeja.io with the lesson or story name, the sentence or exercise, and what you think is wrong (for example a wrong ending, a word that sounds unnatural, or a translation that does not fit). A screenshot is perfect. A report button inside exercises is coming.

The text is too small, or I want dark mode

The app follows your device: make the text larger in your phone's or browser's settings (up to twice the normal size) and the app follows; Me → Settings → Text size shows a preview. Dark mode follows your device too, or choose it under Me → Settings → Appearance.
